It was hard to choose just one this week for multiple reasons, but I decided on this one because it’s easily the YouTube video that I’ve watched most. It’s a live performance of “Ingenue” by Atoms for Peace, performed solely by Thom Yorke on piano. The original, album-version of the song is also good, but overall I think Atoms for Peace fell a bit short on what it could have been, being that Yorke and Nigel Godrich were both in the band, and that they enlisted Flea for bass duties. On paper it should have been an epic venture, yet somehow Yorke went on late night by himself with just a piano and eclipsed the entire Atoms for Peace project.
This might be the one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever created, to my ears at least. Such a stripped down, melancholy moment, it hits me right in the feels no matter how many times I hear it. Enjoy.
